Strategy & Vision Development

The Situation

A global Drinks company identified that there was a lack of long term direction understood by its employees on its European sites. It was decided that the European sites needed to develop long term vision in a way that engaged staff and gained their understanding of the implications. There was huge potential in each site getting aligned action from the staff towards a shared long term future but a number of issues needed to be overcome.

  • Cynicism amongst some of the management population about the need for this.
  • Doing this in a way that it did not become another ‘intellectual’ management exercise. It needed to drive aligned actions and improved performance in the workforce.
  • Budget. As with anything, we needed to stick to a tight budget!

The Results

Two sites have now got clearly defined long term visions which are understood by all and communicated consistently across the management team. The workforce on these sites has had involvement in creating the final visions. The visions are being used to align departmental and personal plans on each site. Further vision development work is being done on other sites.

How We Did It

  • For each site Meeting Magic worked with a design team, to understand the specific context, issues and objectives for the work.
  • A workshop was designed to take a group of people from the site through the Strategic Visioning process. This is a tried and tested process developed by The Grove Consultants International, USA. This also saved the client from wasting money reinventing a new approach.
  • The workshop was facilitated for a group of people representing a cross section of the site and produced a first draft Vision and key actions to take forward.
  • Champions were identified to take the work forward and engage other people in the development of the Vision. Through this process the workforce became involved in understanding the Vision and forming some parts of it.
  • Meeting Magic supported the follow-up and ongoing development of the visions through facilitating further workshops and through 1:1 support of Champions.
